I\u2019m a queer, neurospicy older lady with serious mental health issues, I will be leaning into all those facets of my identity (and a few more) with my designs.<\/p>
Given that I really dislike writing about myself, you might wonder how I ended up here?.. It\u2019s a fair question. The thing is, I never set out to create a shop here, or anywhere else. This enterprise started a long\u00a0 time ago with covid which, for me, developed into long covid. I used to be fit and slim(ish) before the plague hit, then afterwards I couldn\u2019t walk any distance which I had loved to do before falling ill. In fact, I couldn\u2019t do very much at all in the way of exercise. After a few years of not exercising but still eating my shape changed and none of my favourite T shirts fit me anymore! When I went looking for replacements that wouldn\u2019t highlight my belly button or muffin top I couldn\u2019t find very much that connected with me in the way that my old tees did. Far too many appeared to be either designed in 5 minuets on a word processor, pulled together in a similar timeframe using clip art or generated at huge environmental cost, theft of copyright material and no artistic merit by LLM AI engines.<\/p>
So, I did what any autistic person who had recently started medication for their ADHD would do, I sat down with my iPad, Apple Pencil and the Procreate app and designed a few that I would be comfortable to wear. What happened when I started wearing them is strangers smirked, smiled, laughed and commented positively. My friends loved them too (this bit is less surprising and because of my self esteem issues (see mental health above) might have been dismissed as them simply being too kind). This made me feel that there might be a market for my brand of warped humour and hand drawn art. Also, there was (and still is) growing governmental, legislative and systemic backing for TERFs which reached one peak with the Supreme Court judgment in April 2025. This made me want to produce some pronoun tee shirts for trans people and cisgender allies to wear. The third leg in my decision to open a shop was that my own mental health went through a particularly low point around this time and I found that sitting and drawing was an effective and productive distraction from my self destructive thoughts \/ ideation (again, see mental health above). So the concept of JEST foolin\u2019 was born and I searched out teemill as the dropship partner that most closely aligned with my values.<\/p>
The next question that I suspect will spring to your sharp mind is \u201cwhy JEST Foolin\u2019\u201d? It\u2019s a fair question, well asked.<\/p>
JEST is, I feel, fairly obvious. It is a flexing of my name that evokes images of the jester facet of my persona. The one that makes often inappropriate quips and darkly humorous comments almost all the time. The one that loves doing improv performances with The Comedy School. The one that got called a \u201csmart arse\u201d a lot when I was growing up. The fool is, of course, another name \/ manifestation \/ synonym of the jester archetype; so there is that rather obvious tie-in with the JEST part of the brand name. But The Foolin\u2019 also refers to \u201cThe Fool\u201d in the tarot which is card number zero in the major arcana. (Foolin\u2019 rather than fooling because I\u2019m simply not that formal or correct).. The meaning of this, the first card in the major arcana, has a lot of significance for this enterprise. It represents the start of an unexpected or unplanned journey filled with hope and excitement. The card in a reading signifies changes that are generally welcome and positive (acknowledging the support \/ distraction from my depression and self destructive thoughts). The spontaneity, laughter and starting of a journey of discovery feels entirely appropriate to my brand and to me. I have drawn my brand icon to include a rendition of this card with a simplified Fool drawn to represent me as I set out on this exciting endeavour. I hope you will walk with me along the way and laugh, campaign, enlighten and brighten the world around us one tee shirt or hoodie at a time.<\/p>

There is absolutely zero merit in the argument that stringing together a prompt makes someone an artist; there is no such thing as an AI artist. The images that are produced have no merit as works of art, they contain simple errors (count the fingers, limbs and joints \u2026 a bit like the medieval advice on how to spot the fea) and have had all the life that was present in the images stolen for training distilled out of them.<\/p> The use of AI is detrimental to critical thinking and the acquisition and retention of skills (it makes you stupid) this has been highlighted in several studies like this one in Psychology Today<\/u><\/a> and this one in Forbes<\/u><\/a>.
